Daily Devotional: The Courageous Mother of God
Hi everyone! Glad to have you here again! Today, we're exploring the daily devotional, sharing a quick reflection to help you begin your day with positivity. Take a moment to reflect on Luke 1:46-55 in your preferred Bible translation, then return to this page.
For those pressed for time, consider this excerpt and notice what resonates with you:
"He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty."
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is viewed differently across Christian traditions—some revere her, while others mention her in passing. As you read Mary's song, sung after she encountered the angel and consented to giving birth, observe her remarkable strength. This Mary knows her mind and her God.
In her song, Mary praises a God who champions the poor, who overturns oppressors, and who restores justice to the world. This was the song she sang while carrying Jesus in her womb. Is it any wonder that Jesus grew up echoing similar themes?
Mary raised her son within the framework of her faith, imparting to him her understanding of God and instilling in him a passion for justice. Jesus's entire identity was shaped by the community he came from, led by his mother. Thus, when he began proclaiming the Kingdom of God, these beliefs were rooted in his upbringing.
For some of us, the traditions we were raised in do not provide the same vitality and faith that Mary passed on to Jesus. We may need to rediscover and re-examine our beliefs, seeking new communities and new perspectives. Alternatively, others may find value in revisiting the traditions they cherished as children, diving deeper into their faith for continued spiritual nourishment.
Whether you're re-learning or delving deeper, take time today to reflect on the faith of your childhood and consider your path forward.
