Daily Devotional: Fire In My Bones

Hey fabulous friends! Welcome back! Today, we're diving into the daily devotional, sharing a quick uplifting thought to brighten your day.  If you have a moment, read Jeremiah 20:7-18 in your favourite Bible translation. If you’re short on time, consider this excerpt and focus on what stands out to you:

"There is something like a burning fire within me, shut up in my bones; I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot."

Jeremiah observed the world around him, seeing violence and devastation, and felt a powerful urge to speak out. The conviction in his heart was so strong that suppressing it seemed impossible.

This passage carries both a prophetic and a pastoral message. As a prophet, Jeremiah’s role was to challenge the status quo and address injustices. He faced severe backlash from the priest Pashhur, who had him arrested and mistreated. Despite this, Jeremiah remained resolute.

The call here is to embody Jeremiah’s spirit—refusing to remain silent in the face of injustice and speaking out for divine justice, even at personal cost.

On a more personal level, this passage can also offer a pastoral message. There are deep truths within you, burning like a fire, that you're struggling to contain. These truths might relate to your identity, mental health, or personal relationships. Listening to these truths, even when they are unsettling, can lead to profound growth.

As you pay attention to your inner truths and express them, you’ll find that this process transforms both you and your understanding of the world. This transformation can deepen your empathy and commitment to justice, reflecting the love for your neighbour as you love yourself—with renewed intensity.

Often, we become so accustomed to our burdens that we forget they’re not normal. If you feel a burning fire within, you don’t have to keep it hidden or be overwhelmed by it. There’s freedom on the other side, even if it comes with challenges, much like Jeremiah’s trials.

Speak the truth that burns within you.

Reflection Questions:

What truths about yourself are you keeping inside?
What truths about your community and the world are you holding back?
How do you physically experience these truths in your body?

Practical Exercises:

Write down a truth you’ve been afraid to share. If it feels too vulnerable, destroy the paper afterward—shred it, burn it, or tear it into pieces.

Speak a truth out loud in a safe space, like when you’re alone at home or in a quiet outdoor spot. If you’re ready, share it with someone close to you, or send an anonymous message on social media.

Write a letter to your local representative about an issue that matters to you. Even without a solution, express why it’s significant and what you hope to see change.

Attend a local rally supporting a social justice cause that is important to you.

That concludes our devotional for today! I hope this message has brought some light and positivity into your day. If it resonated with you, I’d be grateful if you could like this video and subscribe for more uplifting content. Thank you for joining me today—embrace and celebrate your unique self! Wishing you well and a positive outlook until we meet again.
