God’s Sovereignty in the 2024 US Election: The Christian Vote That Shaped History

The 2024 election results are in, and with Donald Trump back in office, the nation remains deeply divided. But as Christians, we must remember: God is sovereign over all things, including politics. Whether we are celebrating or grieving, our trust is ultimately in Him.

Many Americans are feeling anxious and frustrated, with 73% expressing dissatisfaction and 70% concerned about potential violence according to NBC exit polls. The election breakdown shows significant differences in how religious groups voted:

63% of Protestants, including 82% of Evangelicals, voted for Trump.

58% of Catholics supported Trump.

Among non-religious voters, 71% voted against Trump.

The majority of Christians supported Trump in the 2024 election. Their support was largely driven by shared values on issues like abortion, religious freedom, and traditional family values.

Despite these divides, Psalm 47:8 reminds us: “God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne.” Our hope is not in the results of any election but in God's eternal plan.

Taking a Moment to Breathe

In moments of anxiety, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the chaos. But we are reminded in Philippians 4:6-7 to “be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Breathing deeply, pausing, and turning our hearts to God helps to calm our minds and restore our peace. It’s a reminder to breathe, trust, and rest in His sovereignty.

We don’t need to carry the weight of the world on our shoulders. Matthew 11:28 invites us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” In this season, let’s take a moment each day to breathe deeply and place our trust fully in the One who holds all things together.

Embracing Peace Amid Division

As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers, even in times of division. Matthew 5:9 tells us, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” We are also called to pray for those in authority, as 1 Timothy 2:1-2 instructs us: “Pray for all those in authority, that we may live peaceful lives.”

A Promise of Hope

In the midst of uncertainty, we cling to the promise of Revelation 21:4: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” No matter how divided we feel, we know that God is working all things for His glory.

Prayer for Peace and Unity

Let’s pray for the world and USA, for wisdom for our leaders, and for peace among us all. As believers, our ultimate hope is in Christ, who will return to bring perfect peace and justice.

Father, we come before You with hearts full of trust in Your sovereignty. We pray for President Trump, that he would be led by Your wisdom and Your will. Grant him peace in his leadership, and help him to unite a divided nation. Strengthen him to be a leader of integrity, compassion, and justice, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit as he serves this nation. We pray for unity among the people of the United States, despite any differences. Let Your peace reign in all hearts, and may we work together for the common good, grounded in Your truth and love.

A Moment to Listen, Pause and Relax
Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and release any tension from your body. As you listen to the song “Breathe,” allow the soothing melody to guide you into a place of stillness. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you with peace and rest, and let His presence calm your heart. With every breath, feel His renewing strength flow through you, bringing clarity to your mind and calm to your spirit. Let this time be a reminder that, in the midst of our busy lives, God is always near, offering us His perfect rest.
